Each year is getting bigger and this year is no different.

The 4th Sustainable Garden and Lifestyle Expo aims to link the local Upper Ovens community with the knowledge and products to reduce their impacts on our local environment whilst sustaining local providers and retailers of products that meet this outcome.

The four key themes for reducing our impacts are

1. Water conservation; including harvesting, storage, recycling and reduction in need
2. Reduction of green house emissions via good design and alternative power sources,
3. Reducing our waste production by re-using, reducing and recycling our stuff,.
4. Improving our landscapes via sustainable gardening ie use of compost, mulching, worm farms, wise water use and planting water wise indigenous (local) plants

To match these themes we aim to have providers of these and many more products. For example Worm Farms, Grey Water Systems, Water Tanks, Indigenous Tree nurseries, Remote Area Power systems such as solar, wind and micro-hydro, not to mention sustainable garden and home design. In addition to the products will be a range of local advisors on hand including Upper Ovens Land care, Park Lane Indigenous Nursery and North East Water.

To help you even more with gaining the knowledge you need to get the best use out of these products will be a program of guest speakers who will present on the how-tos of managing a worm farm and composting to the fascinating new concept of Cittaslow. Lyn Clark, President Cittaslow Goolwa SA, the first Cittaslow town in Australia to be the keynote speaker at the Expo.

Apart from Lyn Clark being the keynote speaker at the Expo on the 25th, she will be part of a panel of speakers at a workshop being arranged for the evening of 24th October, where those who are interested can attend.
